The rules now apply
The European Commission confirmed that new right-to-repair rules apply from 31 July 2026. For products technically repairable under EU law, consumers can request repair at a free or reasonable price and within a reasonable time. When a consumer chooses repair under the legal guarantee, the guarantee period is extended by at least 12 months.
The Commission’s repair of goods directive page also describes obligations around accessible information on repair services and spare parts. A European online repair platform is planned for 2027.
